About MigraineWatch
MigraineWatch is an independent, non-commercial citizen-science project. We map migraine attacks as they happen and look for patterns with weather and the environment.
Why
Around one in seven people live with migraine. Many say they can “feel the weather”, and studies link barometric pressure and temperature changes to migraine attacks. A live, global, anonymous dataset measures this at a scale no single clinic can.
How it works
- You report an attack in about 30 seconds - no account, one report per day.
- We round the location to ~10 km and the time to the hour.
- Every hour we fetch weather for each report: pressure, its change over 3–48 h, temperature, humidity, wind and more.
- We compare reports with weather in places and times where nobody reported pain.
What we study
Pressure drops and swings, temperature jumps, humidity, wind, air quality, geomagnetic activity and daylight - and how they relate to attack timing, intensity and aura. Answers to the clinical questions follow the ICHD-3 criteria, so we can separate migraine-like attacks from other headaches.
Research data
Reports are analysed only in anonymised, aggregated form, together with local weather data. The map also shows illustrative sample reports, which are excluded from research data and analyses.
Independence
We are not funded by pharmaceutical companies and do not sell data. No ads and no tracking cookies.
